The 10-minute consultation: bipolar disorder

Advisory board: A Tylee E Vieta A Young

Description

Bipolar disorder is a heterogenous condition and there is considerable disagreement about its definition and diagnosis. In most cases, however, the onset occurs during early adulthood and the illness follows a cyclic course, between episodes of acute mania and bipolar depression.

The 10-minute consultation: bipolar disorder will provide a holistic approach to the assessment and management of bipolar disorder, stressing the importance of ongoing patient review and recall to ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based treatment.

The clinician's manual is designed to be used in the clinic and for studying, containing targeted guidance on all aspects of the primary care clinician's role. Written by experienced key opinion leaders, the book supports everyday patient care and improved outcomes.

Andre Tylee is Professor of Primary Care Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College Hospital, UK.

Eduard Vieta is Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Bipolar Disorders Program of the Hospital Clinic at the University of Barcelona, Spain.

Allan Young is Professor of Psychiatry at Imperial College London, UK, where he is also Director of the Centre for Mental Health within the Division of Brain Sciences, and Chair of the Psychopharmacology Group in the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
